In January 2020, I facilitated professional development (PD) for AmeriCorps members (tutors) and district curriculum support specialists. During this PD we discussed data and ways to improve components of our data, focusing on percentage tutoring in the last 30 days.
Our percentage tutoring in the last 30 days never met the target of 75% during that school year. The closest we came to that goal was 69.7%. We discussed barriers that were preventing that from happening. The barriers included tutors missing days of school, tutors not planning with their teachers to determine when interventions can happen, and some tutors not understanding how to schedule interventions for students. AmeriCorps members, curriculum support specialists, and staff worked in small groups to create solutions to these barriers. Individuals shared their group’s solutions and as a group we determined if these solutions were plausible. We then created a goal: By March 17, 2020, our percent tutoring in the last days will be at least 65%. By that date, we exceeded our goal by 17%, moving from 65% to 82%
